Hello, I'm Lindsey Jackson
I'm a fully qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist, and I believe that everyone deserves a safe space where they can feel heard, understood and accepted without judgement. My approach is warm, compassionate and down-to-earth.
I want you to feel comfortable being yourself, knowing that you don't have to have all the answers or know exactly where to begin.
I'm a registered member of the Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (APHP) and the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I have also completed advanced training as a Somatic Trauma-Informed Counsellor with the International School of Healing and Hypnotherapy (ISOHH).
Understanding You, Your Brain and Your Body
I specialise in supporting people experiencing trauma, chronic stress and high levels of anxiety. Many of the people I work with feel constantly on edge, emotionally exhausted or stuck in patterns they cannot seem to change.
Sometimes, even when life appears to be moving forward, our minds and bodies can remain caught in survival mode. You might find yourself overthinking, struggling to relax, feeling disconnected from yourself or switching between fight, flight, freeze and shutdown responses.
My work brings together psychodynamic understanding, CBT, neuroscience and somatic practice. I believe that understanding why we feel and respond the way we do can be an important first step towards change. Together, we explore the connection between your experiences, your thoughts, your emotions and your nervous system.
Rather than focusing solely on thoughts and behaviours, we also pay attention to what is happening in your body. Through gentle exploration, psychoeducation and developing emotional regulation skills, we can begin to understand your responses, build a greater sense of safety and find new ways of managing life's challenges.
My aim is never to make you feel that there is something wrong with you. Instead, I want to help you understand yourself with greater compassion and recognise that many of the ways we respond to the world have developed to protect us.
Supporting Children, Teenagers and Families
Alongside my private practice, I work part-time as a school counsellor in an alternative specialist education setting, supporting teenagers with their mental health and emotional wellbeing. I have lots of experience working with teenagers and understand that growing up can bring its own challenges, particularly when a young person is struggling to make sense of their emotions, relationships or experiences. I am fully enhanced DBS checked, available on the update service.
My professional background also includes working with children in care settings and training with Place2Be as a school-based counsellor. These experiences have deepened my understanding of attachment, emotional safety, trauma and the importance of helping people feel seen and understood.
As a mum of three, including a child with Special Educational Needs (SEN), I also understand some of the challenges families can face. This personal experience has given me an appreciation of the emotional demands of caring for others and how prolonged stress can affect our own wellbeing.
I bring both my professional knowledge and my understanding of life's complexities into my work, always recognising that every person and every family has their own story.
A Way of Working That Suits You
I know that counselling isn't a one-size-fits-all experience. What feels comfortable for one person might not feel right for another, so I offer different ways for us to work together.
You can choose from:
Online counselling via Zoom – access support from the comfort and privacy of your own home.
Walk-and-talk therapy – a chance to talk while walking outdoors, if being in nature and moving around feels more comfortable than sitting in a room.
Home visits – where appropriate, I can offer sessions in the comfort of your own home.
Counselling in my home – a relaxed, comfortable and welcoming space where you can take some time for yourself.
My home-based sessions are informal and cosy rather than clinical. In fact, I share my home with two small dogs, a cat and an axolotl! Animals are a big part of my home life, and I love the warmth and character they bring. We can discuss the environment that would feel most comfortable for you before arranging a session.
A Space Where You Can Just Be You
I understand that taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting. Perhaps you've spent years putting other people first, trying to keep everything together or feeling that you should be able to manage things on your own.
You don't have to wait until things become unbearable to seek support, and you don't need to explain everything perfectly. We can take things slowly, exploring whatever feels important to you at a pace that feels manageable and safe.
My aim is to offer a calm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can begin to make sense of your experiences, reconnect with yourself and develop a greater sense of emotional balance.
Healing isn't about becoming a different person or erasing everything that has happened to you. It's about understanding yourself, recognising what you need and finding ways to move forward that feel healthier and more peaceful.
You don't have to navigate everything alone. Sometimes, having someone walk alongside you can make all the difference.
If you feel that we might work well together, I'd love to hear from you.
